Islamabad, July 20: Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has told India not to let terrorists win the game by delaying peace talks. In a televised address on Thursday, Gen. Musharraf warned that any delay in peace talks with India due to the Mumbai blasts will be just what terrorists want. Gen. Musharraf reiterated his condemnation of the blasts on July 7 that killed more than 180 people and wounded hundreds in Mumbai, but rebuffed Indian accusations of Pakistani involvement.
He also offered help to India for investigations into the blasts that killed around 200 people. [If you give us proof, evidence on who are behind the blasts, we will fully cooperate,he said, according to PTI. I want to tell the people of Mumbai that we strongly regret the loss of so many innocent lives in the blasts and the government of Pakistan, the people and I are with you in condemning the incidents, he said. Observing that Pakistan itself was facing terrorism, Gen. Musharraf said We are with you in the fight against terrorism.
Gen. Musharraf spoke about the importance of continuing the peace process, which is in the interest of both countries. In his address, which took place on the day when foreign secretaries of Pakistan and India were due to meet in New Delhi to review the progress in the peace process, Gen. Musharraf said peace was the way to prosperity of the region. India postponed the talks at the weekend, saying the atmosphere was not conducive for the meeting. India also believes that there is across the border hand in the Mumbai blasts. Pakistan denies the charge.
Gen. Musharraf, in a meeting with the National Security Council on Tuesday, denounced the attacks and warned that any stalling in the peace process would be laying into the hands of the terrorists.
nbsp; Pakistan has denied the charges as propaganda or speculation unless India could show evidence. Gen. Musharraf had offered help in investigations after a series of blasts killed dozens of people in New Delhi last October but India has been reluctant to take up the offer. |
