| Japan aid to clean Hussainsagar New Delhi, March 31: Ahead of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s propos-ed visit to Tokyo later this year, Japan on Friday agreed to extend about Rs 5,910 crores, of which Rs 294 crores has been allotted to Hyderabad, as official de-velopment assistance to In-dia for the year 2005-2006. The project in Hyderabad is for treating sewage and recyling water in the Hussainsagar Lake and Catchment Area Improvement.
This is the largest soft loan package ever from Tokyo to any country. The “Excha-nge of Notes” to formalise the soft loans for undertaking 10 projects were signed by additional secretary Ash-ok Chawla in the Union Mi-nistry of Finance and Japan’s Ambassador to India Yasukuni Enoki. Among others, power substations will be built and expanded and power distribution will be developed in AP, MP and Maharashtra. |
