Is this a good idea?

Hi

I am planning to integrate a new feature into the forum. This new feature has some plus points and also has some minus points. So i need suggestions from you all. If you feel this feature will help the forum grow then gimme a thumbs up or else if you feel its not such a good idea, then kindly do let me know

The new feature i am talking about is the Points and Store system. Lemme explain this new feature in detail. (Kindly have a lil patience and read on)

This is how the points system is gonna be

• A user gets 'x' points for a new thread.
• A user gets 'x' points for a new reply.
• The thread creator gets 'x' points for each view of his thread.
• A user gets 'x' points for a positive reputation.
• A user looses 'x' points for a negative reputation

I hope i am clear. 'x' is of course a number. For example. Vinod creates a new thread he gets 5 points. Priya views his thread, vinod gets 1 point (coz vinod is the thread creator). Aditya posts a reply, he gets 2 points for his reply. Difenbaker reps (positive) vinod for his thread, so vinod gets 1 point. Then Chethan comes along doesnt like the thread whatsoever and gives a negative rep to Vinod. Vinod looses 1 point. Am i clear now? Ok read on.. Its gonna get interesting for sure..

Note - The points mentioned above are not confirmed, i might change it.

The next question that you might ask is, what do i do with these points??? Well you can do so many things Read on to know what a user can do with the points that he/she earns.

• A user can Change his Username to bold with 'x' points
• A user can Change his User Title to bold with 'x' points
• A user can Change his username with 'x' points
• A user can Change the color of his username with 'x' points
• A user can buy Gifts (i will add the gifts) with 'x' points
• A user can make his username glow with 'x' points
• A user can stick or unstick any thread with 'x' points
• A user can open or close any thread with 'x' points
• A user can gain access to restricted forums with 'x' points
• A user can change other users User title.

I will be adding more features to this. Like maybe T-Shirts for 'x' points. DVDs for 'x' points and so on.. The options are endless...

There will also be a Bank system in this. For example, If say Anu has 1000 points with her. She can deposit that money into the Bank and earn interest. Yes it works just like your Savings bank account

One more option will be the Thief option. Users can steal points. They cannot do so easily though.. Will explain this feature in detail later.

Next is the donate feature. You can donate points to other members.. If incase you feel like doing so

These were what i feel the positives of this system.

Now what can possibly be the negatives? Well there could be many..

• Users posting one word or 2 as replies just for the sake of earning points.
• Fights!!! A user might just get pissed off if he looses some points (in case of a negative rep from another user) which will (or might) lead to flaming, bashing, abuse and what not... I do not want this to happen.
• There could be many more negatives, but i will get to know about them only after i install this system. If you guys find any negatives do let me know.

Thats all.. Now lemme know your views.. Should i have this as a feature in our forum or not?

I think u should add all this in the forums, as it will make the forum more attractive and might engcourage the leechers to post atleast a thank you or word of aprreciation to the posts....... well every system might have its negative, this one will too, but with effectvie governance it cane be minimized....

Hi ashok first of all hat's off to u for coming up with another ecellent idea. Yes i think it's a very good idea may be just u have to do some changes.

Like the one which wolveriene mentioned is a negative and another one could be thread creator will view his own thread number of times to get points.

And about the negative reputation soo far i never saw any body giving negative reputation to any one.

i totally agree with wolverine.........all the features seems 2 b interesting n exciting...except 4 one......

Well i know there could be unnecessary fights etc. But then i got a feeling that it could be fun too.. Anywayz i am dropping that "Change other users user title feature"

And yeh it would encourage the leechers to post.. I am worried about the number of leechers.. There are about 8 to 10 regular posters.. And all the others leech around here.. 30 to 40 members visit the forum everday and read content.. And nearly 500 to 1000 guests come in every single day.. Most of these 1000 are unique users.. Get lots of traffic from Yahoo and google.. So i hope this feature will help reduce the number of leechers..

Yeh i am am aware of the thread views problem.. I guess what your trying to say is.. The thread creator views his/her thread many times to earn points.. Am i right? Well you need not worry.. Thread views are based on your IP address.. 1 view per IP will be taken into a count.. So if wolverine creates a thread and views it 100 times he will only earn 1 point..

Regarding the negative reputation.. Yes so far noone has made use of negative reputation.. But users might start using it once the points system is in place.. At this stage we wont have any problems.. But once the userbase increases it might be a problem..

Regarding Change others usertitle, Read the last post..

Kindly wait for a few days.. I have to test that feature on my test board.. Then break my head on the points system.. I have to figure out how many points is to be awarded to a nwe thread, post, thread views and negative/positive reps..

This system might be in place say by the end of this month..
