Lashkar behind Delhi blasts: Delhi police

Dr K K Paul, commissioner of police Delhi, claimed that the Delhi police has zeroed down on the suspects behind the Delhi blasts and joint teams of Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir police are now raiding various places along with intelligence agencies to nab the culprits.

Addressing a crowded press conference in New Delhi Paul said that Tariq Ahmad Dar, executive in a multinational company, who was picked up from Srinagar was acting at a fund provider.

"Lashkar-e-Tayiba was behind the blasts. Tariq came to Delhi on 4th of October and went back to Srinagar on 6th of October. And thereafter the conspiracy was hatched to engineer bomb blasts. The other two behind the blasts are Abu Alqama and Abu Hafiza respectively who are acting as Lashkar chiefs in Srinagar and Jammu respectively.

Two of the suspects are residents of Jammu and Kashmir and the other two are foreign nationals. In all, four persons took part in the blasts. Tariq did not participate in the actual crime," he said.

He confirmed that RDX, not in the purest form, was used in the crime to engineer the blasts. "We have been able to confirm the nature of the blasts and the design of the bombs used with the help of the witnesses including the bus driver of Delhi Transport Corporation who had seen the bomb before it exploded," he said.

He refused to give details about the transport of the RDX to Delhi or where the conspiracy was hatched. "Tariq had recently deposited Rs 5 lakhs in a foreign bank. The investigations are at a crucial stage and hence we would not be able to share the same with you at this point of time," Dr Paul said.
