Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna is a film that people will sit up and have discussions about!

Actress Preity Zinta is in Paris for the premiere of Yash Chopra's Veer Zara.

Ndtv's Noopur Tiwari caught up with the actress to ask her about her upcoming trip to Cannes and ready to release films Jaaneman and Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna.

NDTV: What brings you to Paris?

Zinta: Hello, bonjour! They have the French premiere of Veer Zara, so I am here.

NDTV: For Veer Zara you have done a slightly unconventional role. Then there was Salaam Namaste. You have done all sorts of different roles. Any more unconventional roles coming up for you?

Zinta: I don’t really look at them as "unconventional" roles, I look at them as opportunities to do something entirely different that I haven’t done before. It was an absolute pleasure to do Veer Zara - a film that binds India and Pakistan in a relationship of love.

NDTV: Do you think here in Europe people will appreciate this film? Bollywood films are considered rather "special" here. Do you think there is a public that exists here that will understand?

Zinta: Emotion is universal. There has never been such a thing as emotions are different in different languages. I am sure people in France will love Veer Zara or any other Hindi film because in a very beautiful way, we export our culture through our films and they are very sweet films. People of all colours, all countries, who speak different languages have really appreciated this film, they have all loved this film.

NDTV: Tell us about Jaaneman?

Zinta: Jaaneman is ready for release. We have just got 10 days of work left on the film and it is going to release in the second half of this year. It’s got Salman Khan and it is a fun film that a four-year-old can watch and a 104-year-old can watch. It’s got a lot of repeat value.

NDTV: You have been writing for the BBC?

Zinta: I haven’t written in a long time.

NDTV: So is this Preity's intellectual side, merging the Preity who has done criminal psychology, who writes for the BBC?

Zinta: I think more than an intellectual, I would say it's a different side of me, a different part of my personality.

NDTV: What are your plans for Cannes?

Zinta: There is no official selection as the media has been portraying. I am just going there for fun - Karan Johar and me. Also our film Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna is now going to release in August.

NDTV: What will you be wearing?

Zinta: I will be wearing clothes and am sure very nice clothes. I don’t know what my wardrobe is yet, but am sure it will be interesting and wonderful.

NDTV: You've said that Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna is the best role you've ever done?

Zinta: Most definitely. I think it is one of my best written roles, the kind of lines I have in the film. And it’s not just me but all the characters. It is a film that people will sit up and have discussions about. It is one of Karan Johar’s most mature films and I am very proud of it.
